Socialized medicine in Britain

Britain has a “single-payer” system, which is what Obama wants to set up here. We can see what that would be like from a news item in the British newspaper, The Telegraph:

NHS refuses to pay for painkilling injections

NHS is the National Health Service, which runs healthcare in Britain. One of the governing bodies of the NHS is the ridiculously-named NICE (National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence). They’ve just decided that cortisone injections, which relieve severe chronic back pain, should no longer be given.

Instead the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) is ordering doctors to offer patients remedies like acupuncture and osteopathy.

Dr Jonathan Richardson, … is among more than 50 medics who have written to NICE urging the body to reconsider its decision…

“The consequences of the NICE decision will be devastating for thousands of patients. It will mean more people on opiates, which are addictive, and kill 2,000 a year. It will mean more people having spinal surgery, which is incredibly risky, and has a 50 per cent failure rate.”

Contact your representatives in Congress and the Senate and let them know that the Administration’s health care bill is a cure worse than the disease. The Project Vote Smart website lets you find your representatives by entering your ZIP code.

Let them know that we do not want our health care system to become like Britain’s or Canada’s.
