What You Can Do

Issues

  • Global Warming Bill Vote Friday June 26, 2009

Key Democrats reached a deal Tuesday that its supporters hope will lead to House passage of the biggest environmental bill in decades, one aimed at slowing the gradual, destructive heating of the planet.

  • The Health Care Bill Price Tag
  • But an initial price tag for the Senate Finance Committee’s proposal came to $1.6 trillion, according to the Congressional Budget Office.

Contact your Senators and Representatives

Project Vote Smart can help you find out how to contact your Congressmen. Mailed letters usually take so long to be screened that it’s not worth the effort. E-mail is better, and a phone message is best.  Click on the “OFFICIALS” tab, then  any of the links under that (“President & Executive”, “U. S. Congress”, &c, then find your state, then find the name.  Phone numbers are on a link on the right, called “Complete Contact Information”.

Recall

Elected officials understand the power of the vote. That’s why, as soon as they’re elected, they start raising money and campaigning for the next election.

Worse than not getting re-elected is getting recalled. That’s not easy, but it can be done. We did it in California in 2003.

Not all states have provision for recall elections, and none are allowed for federal officials. Only fourteen states allow for recalling elected state officials, but many more allow for recalling locally elected officials. Each state that allows recalls has its own laws governing the process.
